Kudos to Ron Wyden! Votes against Patriot Act!
The few, the proud, the the real patriots:
To quote Senator Byrd:“The erosion of freedom rarely comes as an all-out frontal assault. Rather, it is a gradual, noxious creeping cloaked in secrecy and glossed over by reassurances of greater security.”
This had to have been a very difficult vote. This bill was loaded with anti-meth legislation that would significantly aid Oregon in its fight against the spread of methanphetamines.
But undermining the freedoms of Americans is something that no legislator should be voting for. Wyden understands this.
Thank you for serving your constituents so well on this, Senator Wyden. Would that the rest of the Senate fight so fervently for our freedoms.
The “no” votes came from Jim Jeffords, I-Vt., and Feingold, Byrd and seven other Senate Democrats: Daniel Akaka of Hawaii, Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Carl Levin of Michigan, Patty Murray of Washington and Ron Wyden of Oregon.
