Breaking: Gordon Smith: against the tax cut before he was for it.

We note with particular non-glee that Oregon's conservative Republican Senator Gordon Smith voted for yesterday's $70 billion tax cut.

Smith was reportedly against the tax cut..but sources at Congress Daily AM (link hopefully to come) said that Smith was seen talking on the Senate Floor yesterday with Majority Leader Frist, Grassley and Sen. Trent Lott prior to the vote.

A quick check of today's Oregonian makes no notice of Smith's apparent change of heart. Once again our paper of record gives him a pass.

More on this as it develops.
