DL--movie stars, beers and liberal love

If you missed last night's Drinking Liberally, you missed a great time. There's another one on February 9 so put in on your calendar.

The beer was flowing almost as liberally as the talk..which was rousing and fun. There was also a great turnout, around 30 people. The Lucky Lab was hopping with liberals.

We were even graced with the presence of a movie star. The great Tobias Read joined us to eat, drink and make merry.

[Okay, Tobias Read really isn't a movie star (that I know of). "Tobias Read" is the kind of name that looks like it should be up on a marquee somewhere, receiving starring credit for the latest Hollywood romantic comedy.]

Read is running for Oregon House Seat in District 27. He's even got a pretty decent website, which you can view here.

Read's got a Bachelor's in politics and Economics from Willamette University and a Master's in Business Administration from University of Washington. He's been a prodcut developer at Nike and is Nike's rep on the Enviorment and Econonmic Development Committee of the Oregon Business Association.

And there's even a smattering of legislative experience. Read worked for two terms as an aide for former Representative Bryan Johnston. He also spent some time as an aide to US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers.

Read is very active in the Beaverton community, volunteering with the SMART reading program. He volunteers with the Oregon Bus Project. Read is a member of the Willamette University Athletic Department Advisory Board and a founding member of HOOPLA (a charity basketball tournament).

He can also toss back a really big Lucky Lab sandwich in a hurry.

***Update/Correction***: Man, I f'd this post up in two places. I hate when I do that. The next DL is on February 16, not the 9th. This is what I get for trying to write up stuff before I head out to the job that actually PAYS me. Sheesh.
