Oh...SNAP!

Oh my god..it really does suck to be WalMart:

A unanimous Beaverton City Council on Monday night rejected plans to build a Wal-Mart in the Cedar Mill area, saying a big-box store there would be a disaster for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders.

"It's like putting a linebacker in a beautiful evening gown," said Councilor Catherine Arnold.

Wal-Mart's representatives blasted the decision after the meeting. The council clearly looked for a reason to reject the plan and ignored solutions from the retailer and staff members of the city, Washington County and Oregon Department of Transportation, said Jennifer Holder, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman.

"It's definitely about Wal-Mart," Holder said. "The bottom line is that this is a politically motivated decision. I feel they clearly overlooked the work of the past two years."

About 50 opponents who showed up for the council vote were jubilant. Steve Kaufman, leader of Save Cedar Mill, fought back tears.

"I'm astounded," he said. "None of us expected a unanimous decision. It's very clear that the council reaffirmed almost every point we have made from the very beginning."

Unanimous decision. That's excellent.

I love it when the grassroots wins. This must be what David felt like when he kicked Goliath's sorry ass.

WalMart will surely appeal. The next link in the chain would be the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals.

Beaverton quite obviously doesn't want WalMart. Let them go out to Cornelius where they're clearly welcomed with open arms.
