What a bunch of fucking hypocrites
All of a sudden, the Oregon Republican legislative delegation has decided that its absolutely crucial to uptick funding for the State Police. So crucial in fact that they've started circulating a a letter around the Capitol about all the bad stuff that goes on because the Oregon State Police just doesn't have enough manpower to patrol Oregon's highways.
The Republicans are running around as if their hair is on fire--babbling to any reporter who'll listen that their plan to dedicate 1 percent of the state general fund to State Police is the only way to solve the problem.
So..what's happened in the last two years to make this issue so drastic? Why is all this death and pestilence unacceptable now--but it was perfectly fine when Scott cut the funding in the first place?
Wayne Scott and the rest of the Oregon Republicans had no problem slashing the state police just a few years ago. In fact, Scott's own committee in 2005 added those cuts to try to make up budget shortfalls. So rather than raising taxes and paying for an appropriate number of State Police, Scott and his GOP colleagues simply cut out the jobs for cops.
In other words, funding the State Police only matters when the Republicans see that its politically expedient.
And once again--rather than actually raising taxes to PAY FOR THE STUFF WE NEED, the Republicans want to borrow out of the state's general fund--taking money away from education and other necessary services.
